Van de Aengelegenheyd Van Het Gebed (1834)

This story is about a lonely, young accounting clerk who adopts a dog from an animal shelter with whom he closely bonds. A chance meeting with a beautiful young lady raises his hopes of a lasting romance, but his hopes are eventually dashed by unforeseen circumstances. Being somewhat of a klutz, certain episodes threaten his struggling existence. The loss of his pet further plunges him into despair, but his depression is turned around by his next-door neighbor whom he eventually marries and all is right with the world once again when they are presented with a special wedding gift.
