The book is based on the life of a hardened former U.S. Marine/Hostage Negotiator and St.Louis Police officer who confronts a knife yielding killer and an arm-laden drunk who is intent on killing his neighbors and any cop that gets in the way. Amongst the chaos, our main character learns that his wife is pregnant with their first child, a child that he feels may be his only source of sanity in an insane world.
