La Caisse D'Epargne Et de Prevoyance de Paris, 1818-1908 (1908)

When Richard Carter and his young wife awake to find an unconscious neighbor on their frosty lawn, they carry the drunken woman back into her house instead of calling the police. Days later Molly comes to thank them and relates an incredible story of her missing baby and a town that doesnat care. Richard suffers from post-traumatic stress, and knows heas not the agodsenda Molly seems convinced that he is. Yet her plight compels him. Despite his wifeas concern, the former Marine decides to discover the truth. Did someone really take the child, or is Molly an addict and an accomplice in her babyas murder, as the James Mill police believe? Initially amused, the investigating officer soon becomes irritated with Richardas probing.
