In 1979 Mike Walker took his history degree and said auf wiedersehn to an Attila the Hun manager, joined the Army at 26 and found himself in Berlin with drunks who longed for Hitler, Communists who longed for Stalin, Russian soldiers that longed for Arrowsmith records, the rambunctious British and East Germans itching to kill. But he never thought he would later fall in love and marry an American visiting from Houston, Texas, named Ann Smith. Nor did he figure that she would later orchestrate a dangerous ruse to grant the dying wish of her friend, Frau Eickelberger, a German lady dying of cancer. She just wants to see and touch her granddaughter before she dies but the Communists wonA[a–a[t let her out. Since Ann and the girl bear an uncanny resemblance to one another Ann will risk it all and go in to East Berlin to get her out.
