Angola, Louisiana, is the largest maximum security penal facility in the United States. It is located on the Mississippi River about 60 miles upriver from Baton Rouge. This is the story of a family of four that lived inside the prison for five years. The story is fictional, but many of the events described in the story actually took place. On the first day the family moves in, they are horrified to find that their neighbor has been stabbed with an ice pick and hung in her closet for her husband to find. Will they be able to survive the prison and all the complications and trials it will bring into their lives?
