Jean Francois Regnard was a talented comic playwright, born in Paris in 1655. This 1696 play Le Joueur, or ‘The Gamester’, is one of his best-known works. Here, Tilley provides the reader with the full French text of Le Joueur, complete with explanatory notes on the more difficult aspects of Regnard’s language.
