Self-pity and obsessions come together through the approach of a child as he becomes an unlikely national celebrity after an ugly suicide attempt. Although adored, the lies that he and the town keep could be more than anyone is willing to accept. All of this is scattered with glimpses of what life is, and what life is thought to be, ending with an affirming and positive message.
