Georgia Clark narrowly escapes from her abusive husband through a field of brambles and travels a thousand miles to start a new life. Georgia unwittingly gives away her whereabouts through correspondence with her mother, who leaves her letters lying around for Weaver Clark to steal. Georgia divorces Weaver and finds a new husband, a kindly, intelligent man, who treats her better than she ever knew a man could treat a woman. They start a new life together, but their baby is kidnapped and the two spend several weeks doing their own detective work searching for their child. A dark family secret is revealed when Weaver is jailed for kidnapping. The story progresses to a high-speed chase and, believing the child is in the fast little car theyare chasing, the distraught couple worry theyall lose their son.
