Lorley and Reinhard (1877)

Berthold Auerbach

This tale is about corporate education. Follow me, a corporate training professional, as I struggle to develop and implement a leadership development architecture, and build a strategic alliance between corporate strategy and education, while in a global corporation, whose internal training providers were a loose federation of independent tribes, fighting for scarce resources of budgets, and upper management endorsements. There were 17 training organizations on the U.S. side of the merger, more than twice that on the European side. My vision of an integrated, effective, well-tuned learning organization, aligned with a corporate strategy wasn’t to be. It is my hope, that the lessons learned on my journey, will help others in the training and development profession, to achieve their dreams. In spite of corporate politics, knee-jerk solutions to undefined problems, and organizational placement faux pas, there was light. It was quite the adventure.
