This book is a sequel to the fictional story What Have I Done? The story takes place from the end of World War II to 1956. Joe, Maria’s husband, gets court marshaled and sent away to prison. Maria meets a doctor named Gabe at the hospital and has a warm friendship with him, but she cannot get serious with him because she is still married to Joe. Life changes for Joe, and Maria meets Ray and marries him. However, Maria does not know that Ray has a dark side to his personality. As time passes, Ray’s sinister secret is revealed, which makes Maria ill. When Maria becomes sick, Ray decides he does not want her anymore. Maria gets strength from her faith and is able to pull herself together and make a new life.
