The Pantomime Primer (1914)

This is a comic and philosophical saga of two men’s lives, which intersect one summer in a remote beach community called Shallotte, in southeastern North Carolina. Both men are trying to achieve peace of spirit amidst the clashing forces of life. Sanji (D.B. Kennedy) is a retired auto mechanic who moved to the area with the promise of a peaceful, quiet, and undisturbed life in a new house overlooking the Shallotte River. Sanji is self-confident in his own philosophy of life and shares his wisdom in the form of sayings that become wildly popular. Louis has a high stress job in Washington, DC, and is approaching a mid-life crisis. We watch the unveiling of Sanji’s grass-roots wisdom and Louis’ attempt to find new meaning. What begins as a promise of new life for both men will soon become a voyage of discovery, and what both men learn is a parable for today.
