The Borderland (1912)

Tonya Baldwin depicts the triumphs and tragedy of a young girl whose life was forever changed prior to the birth of an illegitimate daughter. Tonya, the central character, is a teen mother standing at life’s crossroads. A high school dropout, she is rejected by her parents and tossed out into the streets of Newport News, Virginia. Mother and daughter were rescued by a couple of sisters who take them in and make them a church project. As a result of their philanthropy, Tonya returns to school and graduates with scholarship offers. Tonya also finds love with Montel Morrison, a graduating senior hiding a dark secret that only she can help him overcome.
