The Old Freedom (1919)

This book is both humorous and poignant, at the same time. Jerry tells of his life, after his retirement from the army in 1987, to the present. He brings the reader up to speed, by going back to 1972, in the first part of the book, to explain how he came to be in his situation at retirement. Jerry relates his stories, as if he were talking face-to-face with the reader. Although the stories are entertaining, they are also a window into the change in his perspective, from soldier to civilian. The scuba stories provide us with both humor, and historical insight. This is a book that can be thoroughly enjoyed, by almost everybody.
