In primitive societies a boy must endure a rite of initiation before he can walk a man among men. Modern society has outgrown this tradition only to find itself inundated with a generation that can’t get no satisfaction. An African Mask is a tale of a nameless novice who drops out of the spiritual wasteland of the ‘60s only to drop into this primal rite, reflected in Western tradition as a descent into hell but preserved here as a penetration into the heart of darkness where a confrontation with the mask (the spirit of the secret cult in its natural element) is the key to finding a way out.
