The pair face many dangers along the trail. They struggle against a perilous river with rushing currents, treacherous mountain paths, and the deep dark forest. Donald learns many different aspects of the wilderness as the two press further into unknown territory in search of the killer cat. The story is set in the forests of the Adirondack Mountains with all their beauty and wonders when the area was natural, unspoiled, and untamed.
