In his mid-forties, Bryce Cooper’s life lacks excitement. His work at the Monterey Institute of Biotechnology is so stale that he counts the minutes until every weekend. But all of this changes quickly when the body of the institute’s Nobel Prize-winning researcher, Dr. Jonathon White, is pulled from an ocean cove at Point Lobos State Reserve near Carmel. Rumors swirl about the dead scientist’s personal life, and Bryce gets directly involved when he is assigned to work with Milo Nash, an eccentric, wealthy Texas detective who was hired to investigate the murder. When other institute scientists receive death threats, it seems that someone is obsessed with the institute and Dr. White’s research project. But why? To find out, Milo and Bryce must first unravel an elaborate cover-up and then set a well-planned trap-before others die.
