The year was 1986 and my sixth-grade class participated in My Day in Court at the local courthouse. To my surprise, my oldest brother was on trial that day. That truly affected me. After the field trip, we were required to compose an essay about what we saw in court for entry in a writing competition. I won that contest and I have been writing ever since. As a young man, I was in love with the idea of being in love. I always wanted that perfect family life and that perfect relationship. That manifests itself in my poems about love and relationships. I never had any real spiritual direction until I met my mentor. He showed me what it means to be spiritual. He made me understand that spirituality is more than reading a few books about the subject. Spirituality is having a real relationship with GOD.
