Mothers in Council (1884)

Arianna Baker, a twelve-year-old, is torn between the separation of her parents because of her powers or claiming her rightful heritage by following the magical path of her ancestors. She uncovers a tangled web woven with demons, mystery, magic and danger as she discovers portals to other worlds within the confines of her own home. Still mourning the passing of her cousin Lucy, doubt begins to enter Ariannaas mind that Lucy is truly gone forever. Shortly after a friendship develops between Arianna and her neighbor, Willow, they begin their journey into the unknown. On their perilous journey they encounter the jikininki demons who guard a marinka, a magical flower used for powerful potions. The journey continues on through another portal, which leads the girls to a wondrous magical world where they meet Captain Caduceus Durbend, who helps Arianna seek the answers she is looking for.
