Joe Cushing was five years old when his mother died shortly after giving birth to his sister. The promise he made to his mama about taking care of her ruled his life. At thirteen, his girlfriend was killed and he was badly injured. At fifteen, his father died in a car crash and he alone had to care for his sister. He taught her to fight and she had the killer instinct. To prevent CPS from breaking them up, they went on the run. In Texas, he managed to put her through college and law school. Joe falls in love with a rich girl and gets embroiled with two powerful families. Her ex-boyfriend and his father are trying to kill him and her.
