When Devyn Idarraga wakes one night from a nightmare, he finds his home town, Hertishrin, under attack by the Dread Lord, an evil man who wishes to destroy all life and create a race of undead creatures. Devyn escapes the attack and meets Elayna, the handmaiden to Princess Vourneen of the Keepers.
