Maternity Without Suffering (1902)

Life on the streets is hard, and no one knows it better than Sam Winston. When his wife left him for another man, Sam had fallen into a deep depression. Like a line of dominos, each falling upon the other, one event after another caused him to spiral further and further into decline. He began drinking with the break-up of his marriage; the drinking caused him to lose his job. First his friends, then his family refused to have anything further to do with him. Finally, he lost his home, and life on the streets became a bitter reality. This is a story of how a man overcame terrible obstacles in his life and, in the process, was able to save the lives of people he came into contact with. Mostly, it is a story of a spirit that refused to be broken by the cruelty of an indifferent society.
