For the Love of Sapphire: The Promise deals very simply with the promise of everlasting life. Young Nate Mate is very ill but full of the joy of youth. He explains Godas promise to his pet dog, Sapphire, and she, in turn, realizes that Nate will always be a part of her life. The illustrations, done so beautifully by Sandy May, bring Sapphire to life. Though written with five- to nine-year-old children in mind, Sapphire is sure to touch the hearts of old and young alike and perhaps give some comfort to those facing the loss of a loved one.
