The winner of the Nobel Prize in 1905, he is best known for his epic historical novel Quo Vadis, which depicts early Christianity and the persecutions. The story follows Vinicius, a soldier, who, in order to win the love of Ligia, a Christian, must come to understand the true meaning of her religion, even as Rome sinks under the excesses of Nero and Christians are thrown to the lions.
