The Man from Home

Booth Tarkington,Harry Leon Wilson

  1. With illustrations from scenes in the play. Although his first book was about English romance, Newton Booth Tarkington, winner of two Pulitzer Prizes, for The Magnificent Ambersons and Alice Adams, came to be known for his comical (and almost cynical) style of the Lost Generation that characterized the 1920’s. Tarkington collaborated with Harry Leon Wilson of Ruggles of Red Gap fame on eleven plays, the most famous being The Man from Home. The play follows wealthy brother and sister Horace and Ethel Simpson as they tour Europe. They fall prey to Russian conmen, one of whom plans a marriage with Ethel. Executor of their fortune Daniel Pike, assisted by Grand Duke Vasill, exposes the Russians’ devious game. See other titles by this author available from Kessinger Publishing.
