- Harris, Professor of Biblical Languages at Cambridge, was one of the leading luminaries in bringing forth the ancient Syriac Bible (and many other ancient Syriac Biblical manuscripts). He spent as much time in the Middle East as possible. The long lost Odes of Solomon were discovered by Harris in 1909 among a pile of old Syriac manuscripts which had been brought to England from the Middle East and tossed onto shelves in a corner of his office.
