Henry Edward Manning: His Life and Labors
Shane Leslie, Sir
- This book must appear as a supplement rather than a supplanter to Purcell’s grandiose Life of Cardinal Manning. Cardinal Manning was ordained in the Church of England in 1832 and became Roman Catholic in 1851. He was the founder and superior of the Oblates of St. Charles, London from 1857-1865, becoming the archbishop of Westminster in 1865. Manning later became a Cardinal and was a vigorous builder of Catholic schools and institutions.
