This work was translated from the autograph of Saint Teresa of Jesus by a Benedictine of Stanbrook with annotation of the variants from the Escorial and Valladolid versions. In this book, St. Teresa first recommends the practice of prayer and meditation which give a taste of that sweetness reserved by God for those who fear Him, rendering them prompt and ready for all the works of virtue.
