Running Eagle: The Warrior Girl is a historical fiction novel written by James Willard Schultz and published in 1919. The book tells the story of a young Blackfoot girl named Running Eagle, who defies the traditional gender roles of her tribe and becomes a skilled warrior. The novel is set in the late 1800s, during a time of conflict between the Blackfoot people and the American government. Running Eagle's father, a respected warrior, is killed in battle, and her mother dies soon after. Left alone, Running Eagle is determined to avenge her father's death and protect her people. Despite the objections of the tribal elders, Running Eagle trains to become a warrior, learning to ride horses, shoot a bow and arrow, and fight with a spear. She becomes a skilled fighter and earns the respect of her fellow warriors. Running Eagle's journey is not without its challenges, however. She faces discrimination and ridicule from some members of her tribe who believe that women should not be warriors. She also struggles with her own doubts and fears as she faces dangerous enemies and uncertain outcomes. Throughout the novel, Schultz weaves in themes of gender roles, cultural identity, and the clash of traditional and modern values. Running Eagle's story is a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of indigenous women and a reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by indigenous peoples in North America. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
