BLOTTING OUT TEANSOBESSIONS. Isaiah Xliv. 22. I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins; return unto Me; for I have redeemed thee. Here we may witness the great love God hath to sinners. When we were enemies, in due time Christ died for us, much more then being reconciled we shall be saved by His life, for He ever lives to make intercession for us. At the very time the prophet spake these cheering words – the good tidings of great joy – Israel, or the Jewish people, were wanderers from God. He might, therefore, have sent them a message of wrath for their sinful ways; but no, He is gracious and merciful, long-suffering, not willing that they should perish, but be converted, and God should heal them. Brethren, God speaks to us in the same strain of love and mercy! He does not upbraid us for our sins and ingratitude, but invites us to return to Him from whom we have gone astray, for He pities us, and has provided a ransom for us, that if we consider aud repent, he will receive us graciously and love usfreely.
