Cinq-Mars: An Historical Tragedy In Five Acts is a play written by William Francis C. Wigston and first published in 1883. The play is set in 17th century France and tells the story of Henri Coiffier de Ruz?????, Marquis of Cinq-Mars, a nobleman who becomes embroiled in a plot to overthrow Cardinal Richelieu, the powerful minister of King Louis XIII. The play is divided into five acts and follows the rise and fall of Cinq-Mars as he becomes increasingly involved in the plot against Richelieu. Along the way, he falls in love with Marie de Mantua, a lady-in-waiting to the Queen, but their relationship is threatened by the political intrigue surrounding them. As the plot against Richelieu unfolds, Cinq-Mars and his co-conspirators are ultimately betrayed and executed, leading to a tragic ending for the play.
