A dream the author-narrator experiences in the wee hours one morning acquaints him with the nation of Dremaria on the Patagonian Coast of South America. Greeted at the airport by a dashing Latin-American "uncle" he's never before met, the narrator is whisked via helicopter to a magnificent mountain hacienda. Following the dream, the narrator's yarn sends him to Dremaria and his long, lost uncle shows him around the dazzling country. In process, the rich life story of Uncle Ricardo, a former president of the nation, is weaved and revealed, all before a canvas of an enchanting land: its pristine mountains, sun splashed islands, charming capital city, and beautiful people. Uncle Ricardo's tale has highs and lows, as the narrator learns and takes notes. Four related stories see the narrator on an odyssey across the ocean. Uncle Ricardo, though not on the journey, plays his omnipresent hand in a medley of incidents by the time the narrator loops back to Dremaria.
