En estos cuentos se narra la interaccion entre el mundo espiritual y el material y el deseo por escapar de la opresion de los regimenes de corte socialista-caribeno como el cubano, tambien el amor puro y el sexo se manifiestan de una forma en que se borran sus limites, pero siempre prevalece el libre albedrio de los personajes dentro del estrecho margen de una isla-carcel. Tambien se concibe la muerte como el principio de otra vida real y el bienestar final de los espiritus encerrados dentro de los cuerpos materiales que han usado para manifestarse y desarrollarse en la nueva reencarnacion.
