Thirty years have passed since the ban on the ancient magic. Thirty years since the queen put a mark on those she deemed dangerous. The desolation of one of Rahlynd’s largest cities proved just how reckless those with the gift of fire could be. History books were changed, schools of magic closed, and life as many in the kingdom knew it became rather ordinary.
At seventeen years old Liam Fosnik doesn’t remember a time with magical schools or freedoms, however not too many eyes follow him in the small, forgotten town of Kalston. Liam practices the magic he can with the little he knows whenever he thinks no one is looking. He doesn’t know exactly why the queen fears his abilities, nor is he sure why his mother seems to avoid the subject of the fiery magic called ignegic. Liam simply works in the town bakery, spends time with his best friends, and most importantly, stays away from the town soldiers.
Unaware of his family’s secrets and messy past, Liam’s life suddenly changes when a mysterious
old man finds him in the Kalston bakery. Soon Liam learns of an ancient prophecy involving his family line that could change the course of the kingdom. Unsure of what all his mother was hiding from him, he is soon forced on the run with the old man, leaving Kalston and his home behind. Liam quickly learns more of his abilities with the historic magic and possible ties to the prophecy that will alter the course of the kingdom, but when a passionate and powerful ally against the queen emerges, Liam is compelled to question what the right thing to do is.
Magic by Fire, Spark of a Flame follows Liam Fosnik as he wrestles with right and wrong, who he can trust, and when to break the rules. Liam must question everything he knows as he watches history unfold, and when confronted with a choice, he sees that magical freedom will only come at a cost.
