This book serves as a prequel to The Tales Of Robert Lowe, following Robert and Bill as the best friends arrive in Fort Bowers during the early 1900's. With few prospects but extreme talent wielding a gun, Robert is uncertain as to how he is going to make a positive impact during his lifetime. His path is affected when he encounters Mary but hopes of romance are dashed as her preacher father has a differing impression of Robert than that of his daughter.
