A note from the author about Alice Ott and Frances Crowe:

Alice Ott is based on the well-known local activist Frances Crowe, who passed away on August 27, 2019.

Frances frequently joined me at local book events over the past 7 years, and I will miss her company as I continue without her. I will always treasure our very long friendship, and her dependable wisdom about so many things.

I am also grateful to Ann Wilson, the other inspiration for Alice Ott, whose friendship was a life-changing gift to me.
