My Days of Sorrow and Joy in Rwanda recounts the experiences of clinical social worker Betsy Kain as she treated traumatized survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and was overwhelmed with sadness at their sufferings. But watching their recovery and helping to raise their economic and nutritional levels through finding donors of goats, cows, a fish farm, and a clean-water filtration program, brought Betsy many days of great joy. She was embraced by communities of these resilient survivors and shared in their happiness over the improvements to their mental and physical well-being.
