On October 27, 2018 a mass shooting took place in the synagogue community of Tree of Life - Or L'Simcha Congregation in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The congregation, along with New Light Congregation and Congregation Dor Hadash, which also worshipped in the building, was attacked during Shabbat morning services. The shooter killed eleven people and wounded six. It was the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in the United States. This story is about a Torah scroll which was present at the Tree of Life synagogue during the tragic event who discovers the true meaning of friendship when a new Cover is gifted to him by friends of the synagogue. Together, they help each other to spread the story of that sad day, and the meaning of friendship and tolerance so that something so terrible might never happen again.
