I Matter Too is a postpartum journal designed to support new moms during the fragile postpartum period. It is a self-care tool to help women consciously navigate the physical, emotional and spiritual changes they face after childbirth and upon entering the nebulous journey of parenting. I Matter Too was created from the belief that when moms take care of themselves first, the whole family (including baby) benefits. It is designed to help new moms grow into balanced, wholehearted role models for their children, while resisting societal pressures to become martyrs to the new identity. Finally, it is a tool for planning and reflecting on essential self-care needs that will critically define the reader’s experience of new motherhood - a perfect baby shower gift or self-care gift for your expectant self.
A note from the author: After experiencing postpartum depression (PPD) with my first daughter, I resolved to do things differently the second time around. I completed the helpful weekly planning exercises and mindful daily prompts contained in this postpartum journal (on scrap computer paper) for 3 months after my second daughter’s birth. It made all the difference (for the better) in how I experienced the postpartum period and how my daughters experienced me as their mom. As such, I felt a calling to share the supportive approach with others who may benefit too. It is my wish that this journal affirms for you that self-care is never selfish, that it helps you design the life you authentically want, and that it improves the physical + emotional healing processes you will undergo during one of life’s most challenging seasons. Here’s to a whole lot of love, humility and support!
