A family lives on a small farm in Australia. During a rainstorm, the mother and daughter see a big wombat in the back yard. The mother's name is Alice, the daughter Cindy. Alice and Cindy put on raincoats, and walk up to the wombat with carrots. Cindy gives the wombat a carrot to eat. The wombat is very hungry and ate the carrot quickly. Cindy holds out another carrot for the wombat to see, and the wombat follows them onto the back porch. On the porch, Alice and Cindy put a blanket down for the wombat to sit on, and dry it off with towels. Cindy gives the wombat more carrots to eat, then the wombat falls asleep on the blanket. Every night thereafter, the wombat would come to the back porch and sit on his blanket. Cindy would give him carrots to eat, and then he would fall asleep. Before going to bed, Cindy would pet the sleeping wombat softly and say, "Carrots and kisses. Goodnight, Mr. Wombat. I love you."
