The Wedding Gift

It is the year 110AD, a peaceful period in Rome, under the Emperor Trajan. Albanus, the last in the line of an aristocratic Roman family, would be relatively content

with his lot, as a single, low-paid clerk to an unsuccessful lawyer, but for the fact that the family home is in serious need of renovation. His only recourse, it would

seem, is to marry a girl with a large dowry. But when his mother finds out that the girl in question comes from a family with a dubious reputation, she is not slow

in showing her disapproval. Unable to prevent the marriage, she buys the couple a wedding gift - a handsome young Greek slave boy. But is there another agenda

behind this generous gift?
