Everyone has their own way of living in the world and managing their fears and anxieties. But can two people with very different approaches come together to overcome obstacles?

Rendered in full colour, this delightfully illustrated book is about friendship, adventure, travel, and overcoming fears in unconventional ways.

A writer is experiencing writer’s block, until the arrival of Lucie-a Parisian, who magically steps out from the writer’s laptop, as if onto a stage.

Lucie has loved travelling throughout Europe, and now she is moving to Vancouver, British Columbia. Lu lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The two meet while working on the Transcontinental passenger train in Canada. Travelling between Vancouver and Winnipeg, the story focuses on their local and global adventures together, and the often-comedic dynamic between these best (burgeoning) friends, who are learning there isn’t one universal way to navigate the world. (-except perhaps through trusting yourself and your new best friend!)

The book is presented in four sections: Lucie and Lu (The Meeting) begins in Paris; The Rock is set in Lighthouse Park, West Vancouver; The Buoy takes us to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef; and Lost finds the duo back in Canada, hiking in North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley.

This book will be of interest to young adult readers of illustrated fiction, especially those aged 9 to 12 years. Young people who have travelled, or want to travel, may particularly find themselves reflected in this book. Many young teens eager to travel and explore the world, especially since they have been cooped up during the COVID-19 pandemic, may feel some hope and vicarious pleasure in reading this book. This book is also great for parents, teachers, and students looking for some bilingual (English and French) content.
