Hugo doesn't think he needs to read. He's sure of it actually. He gets by just fine without it, no matter what his parents say. His mom reads to him all the time anyway, and when she's not around, he just looks at the pictures. Reading is too confusing, and besides, Hugo is too busy.

But when he starts to realize what he's missing out on, and then has a disastrous mishap with his ice cream, he wonders if he was wrong. Does Hugo need to read after all?
