This biography relates the story of St. Monica (332 - 387), the mother of St. Augustine. A native of Northern Africa, she would become famous for her devotion to her son and her pious life of prayer. Forbes masterfully weaves the story of St. Monica’s life with the background details of ancient Roman as it became a Christian state, while also including details of St. Augustine’s (354 - 430 AD) early life and conversion. The source text for this work is The Life of Saint Monica, London: Washbourne, 1919, by Frances Alice Forbes (1869-1936). To this text have been added illustrations of the saint and her son.
