Duncan Polite was a conscientious and God-fearing watchman in the small town of Glenoro. A widower with a young daughter, nothing much disturbed the rhythm of his life until the arrival of a new doctor and his flirtatious wife. The town's peace is shattered when Duncan begins to uncover the illicit relationship between the doctor's wife and a young salesman. Set in turn-of-the-century Canada, this novel explores the nature of sin and redemption in a small, tightly knit community.
