First published in 1892, The Blind in China is a scathing critique of a method of teaching Chinese to the blind that was being promoted by Miss C.F. Gordon-Cummings. Campbell argues that the method is flawed, and that blind students would be better served by learning a phonetic system of writing. Although the book is focused on a rather esoteric topic, it sheds light on broader issues of education and disability in China at the turn of the century.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
