I Am Cancer

Tess hates the term midlife crisis, and yet she’s sure that’s what this is. Somewhere along her lifeline everything changed. Instead of being a wife to her now ex-husband or a mother to her children, it’s more like she’d turned into extensions of them-as if the real Tess lay dormant. Nothing wakes a person up quicker than the words You have cancer. Questions dominate Tess’s mind when she learns of her cancer: Am I going to die?
How much is this going to hurt?
Do I have enough time left to correct my many mistakes-enough time to make a lasting impact on my young daughters? For Tess, the most difficult question to face is Will I be remembered, or will it be as if I were never here? We all assume that we’ll have plenty of time to fix the broken parts of our lives. Sometimes we are forewarned that our tomorrows are numbered, and sometimes we are not. Regardless of the amount of time, the real question is What will you do with the time you have left?
