Growing up with immigrant parents from India, Kartik Patel started life watching them struggle to transition to life in the United States; all the while he himself was an American citizen. His parents instilled in him a love for all things science, but once he was introduced to archaeology he made it his life goal to pursue that particular career path. While Kartik was still an undergrad, he was asked by one of his professors to complete a special project. To Kartik’s surprise, the professor was using this complex task to test Kartik’s skills and knowledge in archaeology, specifically in his knowledge of Pirates. After being the first student to pass the professor’s test after years of prospects, Kartik was let in on a secret expedition the professor was willing to personally fund. The professor had Kartik form a small team for his quest; he chose his girlfriend Molly, a rambunctious redhead, his roommate Sal, a tough as nails reformed gang member turned Marketing major, and a young prodigy named Henry, who was highly skilled in the Engineering field. Together the group of four traveled to South Carolina on Spring Break in search for, what some would describe as, the most sought after treasure of all time, the lost treasure of Blackbeard.
