After a childhood of nightmares and parental abandonment, Angelica Acacia has learned how to pretend to be normal and hide her strange inhuman abilities from others. But a series of events before her twenty-first birthday spurs an obsessive desire to discover the truth behind her mother’s long ago disappearance. She remembers little else but the strange man that hunted them in her nightmares prompting the mother she’d called Lily to leave her on her grandmother’s front porch. Giving in to her desire to understand why she was abandoned, she arrives in New Orleans just as a wave of gruesome murders terrorizes the city. In danger of dying by the hands of the sadistic killer, Angelica finds herself caught up in the world of an ancient species of man with her same weird abilities and the ticking clock of a prophecy whose time has come. For thirty years, Reximortum’s mission has been to prevent the prophecy from branding his people the losers of this war, the Reckoning. His last chance at preventing this foretold event is to seize an ancient book and kill Valor, the name given to the person the prophecy believes will trigger the upcoming apocalypse. To ensure winning, he enlists the help of sinister dark forces, only to learn too late that destroying the prophecy may also destroy all else that he has left in this world. Landing in an unfamiliar world of secret councils and ritualistic ceremonies, Angelica must unravel her past before it is too late to prevent a prophecy that will destroy the world as humans know it.
