Khalil Armstrong, better known as Skrilla Kay, is North Philly’s rising young talent and most respected up and coming rap artist in the streets of Philadelphia. Skrilla is receiving a large local reception and finds himself at a pivotal stage in his career. It’s Friday morning and tonight he will be opening for the biggest act to come from Philadelphia. He currently has a new single in rotation that dubs as a detailed description of his gold chain, helping to maintain his local buzz. Skrilla is almost completely ready for his show this evening. He is just missing one crucial aspect of his attire…the chain! He has desperately been waiting on a debt to be paid to him by his oldest and best friend Lil E., who has been feeding him excuses for just under a month now. The two begin to feel the pressure more than ever, now that the day of the concert has finally arrived and the chain still remains on layaway at a small jewelry store on the ave. The owners, two Forbes reading Russians who aren’t likely to grace the pages of their favorite magazine anytime soon, are also desperately in need of the remaining balance to be paid. The rent is due along with the salary for their employee and the two are left almost penniless as they await their money. The store’s landlord is also under the gun due to his nagging wife, who is unwilling to allow them to pay the rent late, the way they’ve become accustomed to doing. Their faithful employee is also awaiting her payment, yet unlike the others she is not in desperate need of the money. However, someone near and dear to her is and unfortunately for the owners, he is not as forgiving as she is, adding some extra sweat to the brows of the owners on what is now the hottest day of the year. It seems that everyone is dependent on the same payment, while cultures clash and tensions flare in this North Philly neighborhood. The question remains, will Skrilla snap before getting tired of asking his trusted friend, Where’s Ya Man?.
