Unexpected America

In Unexpected America, Wanjiru Warama embarks on her historic journey from Kenya headed to America where she does not know a soul. Right off the plane, she realizes she has to learn to live all over again in a culture she knows nothing about. She has to wrangle with the way she speaks, listens, travels, socializes down to the food she eats.

From the first day, loneliness and culture shock debilitates her before she meets Mr. Savior who becomes not only her savior but also her lover and abuser. She struggles to make sense of her new life while stuck in the old ways she acquired in rural Kenya. Finally, she realizes she has no option but to stand on her two feet and save herself.
